From canvas to screen, without losing the soul
Angela Chauvin is a fine artist whose creative life revolves around painting.
When she approached us, she needed a simple, elegant portfolio she could share privately with galleries, curators, and collectors — without any prior digital experience.
Our shared goal was to create a manageable, story-driven website that mirrored the intimacy and quiet strength of her studio practice while remaining easy for her to update independently.

The challenge
Angela wanted:
A password-protected website for selective sharing.
A design that felt personal, refined, and true to her art.
A layout she could easily edit and maintain herself.
The challenge was bridging two worlds:
the pure artistry of her work and the digital systems required to share it without losing its authenticity.
The site had to feel like an extension of her studio, not a generic template and it had to be manageable for her without ongoing technical support
The Opportunity
Turning Visual Identity into Experience
Our process unfolded as a gentle collaboration — translating an artist’s world into a coherent digital story.
Discovery & Persona Building
Through open conversations, Angela shared her inspirations, process, and the emotional tone she wanted people to feel when viewing her work.
These dialogues helped define her brand persona — grounded, thoughtful, serene — and shaped the website’s voice and flow.

What We Did
I led the discovery, visual direction, layout, and platform setup, turning Angela's stories and paintings into a coherent, self-managed digital experience.

1.Discovery & Persona Building
Through open conversations, we explored Angela's influences, aspirations, and the emotional tone she wanted visitors to feel.
This helped define her brand persona and the role the website should play in her practice.

2.Visual Identity & Mood Direction
We developed a calm, warm visual language pairing Libre Baskerville and Avenir with a muted, earthy palette that supported the artwork rather than competing with it.

3.Layout &
Story Flow
We structured the site like a gallery experience:
a soft hero, themed collections, an About anchored in self-portraits, and a simple contact path.
White space and pacing were used as active design tools, giving each piece room to breathe.

4.Platform Setup & Handover
We built the site on Wix to prioritise ease of use, set up password protection for selective sharing, and ran a live handover session so Angela could confidently edit and grow the site herself.

Key Insights
For many artists, the real value of a website is autonomy: being able to share and update their work without losing the emotional integrity of their practice.
Design as Translation
The work was less about inventing a brand and more about translating Angela's existing studio energy into a digital format.
Simplicity Is a Skill
Restraint in colour, typography, and interaction created a more mature, authentic presence than a complex, over-designed layout ever could.
Autonomy Builds Trust
Choosing a platform she could use herself turned the site into a tool she owns, not a dependency on a designer or developer.
Story Over Structure
The narrative flow how someone moves from first impression to deeper understanding mattered more than any standard portfolio formula.
These choices created a digital home that feels like Angela: grounded, thoughtful, and quietly confident.

ROI
For the artist
For Her Practice
She now has a professional, password-protected portfolio she can share with gatekeepers on her own terms and update without help.
The site adds a new layer of legitimacy and readiness when approaching galleries, curators, and collectors.
For My Practice
This project reinforced how digital design can act as a gentle bridge for artists entering the online world for the first time.
